TG: this is going to be fucking stupid isnt it
[want to get in touch with Dave? you can leave a TEXT, VOICE, or VIDEO message — or alternatively, he shouldn't be too hard to track down in person. it's a hunk of junk space house. in space. he's around here somewhere.]
no subject
["yeah, we're related. yeah, he's my age, and yeah, if complicated situations uncomplicate themselves, then i'd call him my bro. but if you wanna get technical, i guess, he's really my dad. and also, my best friend who gave me the shades scienced us all up in a lab on a meteor in the middle of space, and then i rode down to earth on a pony on another meteor.
"the pony didn't make it."]
yeah
didnt know you knew him
no subject
only sort of. we haven't really talked much, he seems kind of aloof.
[It's the lack of facial expressions that gets him. Same with Dave. What do y'all have against using your faces??]
it must be nice having family around, huh?
no subject
[it's one of those things, one of those similarities to the version of Dirk who raised him that Dave can pick out immediately. it's why he's confident in saying that it's normal.]
[it's one of those things where they're completely different, too. because Dirk isn't completely impossible to read, if you spend enough time with him. Dave certainly couldn't say the same thing about Bro.]
[shit's confusing.]
its alright though i guess
we never actually met each other before coming here
no subject
man, what are the odds of that, though? running into someone you're related to, but never got to meet before. that's some weird kind of luck
no subject
separateds not really the right word for it anyway
its more like
youve heard people here talking about all the different versions of earth theyre from right
same deal for me and him
[that's not ... too weird, right. he tried to make it as familiar sounding as possible.]
i guess its pretty lucky if you put it that way
i dunno
im just used to knowing that shits happening exactly the way its supposed to
unlikely or idiotic or unfair as it might be
no subject
uh... right. ok
[He doesn't understand at all, but his brain hurts from trying to figure it out so he's just kind of leaving it as "they're related it's fine."]
"exactly the way it's supposed to"... what, like some kind of religious thing? being watched out for and stuff like that?
no subject
nah i dont do religion
its more of a literal thing
i dont know shit about the future nor do i have control over what people do or the decisions they make
but its always been really obvious to me when something that isnt supposed to happen does
[it's hard to mistake a doomed timeline, a splintered existence where something went awry, where moving forward was no longer an option. but he's purposely leaving that vague, and also leaving out the part where he could know the future if he wanted to.]
[that comes with its own set of problems. it always does.]
i guess what im saying is
you can make a choice or do something that you either hate or wind up regretting later
or something could happen that you cant explain
but if shit keeps moving forward the way it always has
then its safe to assume your choices were the right ones regardless of your feelings on them
and youre meant to go through the stuff you do as a means of reaching a place where everything works out
never really makes bullshit any easier to accept
but it is a way to process it
no subject
i guess that makes sense since you can like... time travel? or stop time?
whatever you did back when. you know
thanks for that again, btw.
no subject
i can do both those things yeah
but i already told you its fine dude
dont worry about it
or im gonna have to start charging a tax every time you thank me
no subject
seriously, though... how did you learn you can do that? and... if you make a choice and you find out it's the wrong one, can you just go back and fix it?
no subject
its a really long and quite frankly really fuckin stupid story
i dont mind telling you if youre really curious
just might be better told in person
[there are a couple of reasons why he suggests that. one of them is just out of a desire for privacy from whoever might be digging through unencrypted messages. another reason is because he'd like to see Hajime's reactions in person.]
thats the general idea behind it yeah
but going back and fixing a wrong choice implies makin some pretty drastic changes to the timeline
and changing things outside of a normal stable time loop like that always has consequences
