[Gundam hasn't been here too long but, it's not hard to realize that terrible things of varying severity seem to happen at least once a month. An Earth month anyway-- he's not quite sure how long a month is in Susan's heavenly orbit.]

It's plausible that it's just our consciousness that's been transported to this station, and our bodies are somewhere else. Back home, we have a similar system on the Bunker. Of course those are temporary bodies, and we're all androids. I've never heard of transporting a human consciousness that way...

[That's a lot of talk about scrotums and assholes and it's taking a lot for Ryuji to keep a straight face through it all. But he's practicing temperance and... y'know, maybe not being a middle schooler all the fucking time about things, and try as he might to keep those things at bay, he still cracks a smile.]

[there aren't really a lot of comforts out here. not really. but sometimes, Dave has to pause and sort of be completely surprised with how easy he seems to find some around Ryuji anyway. it's the comfort of knowing that while the rest of the station is in a horrifying murder mode, while his own nightmares and secrets are being flung around haphazardly in an alternate universe version of the station, he has somewhere warm and safe to retreat to. someone who watched him upend a briefcase of major issues all over the floor in one single motion, and despite that, still refused to give up on him.]

[they've had that discussion before. it still surprises him sometimes.]

[and, if it didn't come with the risk of accidentally dozing off and cutting a date in Houston short, he'd roll over on his side and wrap an arm around Ryuji, really bask in how natural lazing around as a mess of limbs has gotten for him. maybe he'll do that once more time has passed, and they've talked a bit longer.]

[Some chick is calling him out on the radio (oh whoa, whoa, whoa, on the radio) and he's all fucking for it, but then again...

He had come into his own persona in the exact same way, and he didn't have the opportunity to think about it. Everything was necessitated and urgent. A non decision would have led to his death, and the death of someone that had meant a lot to him even though they had only known each other for a handful of days. So maybe, well, maybe he didn't really have much of a choice back then.

And he feels a lot more responsibility now than he ever has before. He knows what he would think, or what he'd go through if Dave made a choice that could've possibly put himself in danger. They're both prone to do stupid things and go to great lengths in the name of self-sacrifice when it came to each other, but a few months into this relationship, he's getting better at recognizing the fact that sometimes he can't just jump headlong into battle without thinking through those impacts. He doesn't want to do that to Dave.

A few months ago, Venus had told him about this. In vague terms. That if she could help him, she would. And it's Ryuji's turn, after the Devil had made herself known and put the pieces on the board. She waited because Ryuji didn't say no. And as much as a personal decision as it was, her extended gift promised to give him what he needed to keep Dave safe. To come into his own so that when he looked in the mirror he didn't see the terrifying thought of one day destroying everything down like his father had. Her own words. So this wasn't a personal matter at all.]
